About Sailor Capital
A family-backed investment company that would rather own four good businesses for twenty years than forty for three.
Sailor Capital Pte. Ltd. was established in Singapore in 2018 to consolidate the shipping and industrial interests of its founding families and to deploy capital into operating businesses across Asia.
We are not a fund. The capital we invest belongs to the partners and to a small number of families who have worked with us for decades. That structure dictates everything about how we behave: we underwrite to a holding period measured in decades, we take board seats rather than observer rights, and we would rather forgo a return than take a governance risk we do not control.
Today the group owns five operating businesses — a Singapore ship management company, a fleet of owned container and dry bulk tonnage, a stake in a Hong Kong business aviation operator, a Thai residential development joint venture, and a controlled-environment agriculture facility in Hangzhou. Each is run by its own management team; each reports to a Sailor Capital partner every month.

Investment philosophy
Four rules we have not broken since 2018
Understand it, or pass
If we cannot explain how a business makes money in three sentences to someone outside the industry, we do not invest — regardless of how good the numbers look.
Buy the operator, not the asset
Assets are replaceable; capable, honest operators are not. We underwrite the management team first and the asset second.
Leverage is a tool, not a strategy
Group-level gearing is capped and tested against a downside case where revenue falls by a third for two consecutive years.
Bad news first
Management teams are measured on how early they tell us about a problem, not on how few problems they report.

Governance & responsibility
Controls that apply to the smallest holding as much as the largest
Every holding is audited annually by an independent firm and reports to a Sailor Capital partner monthly against an approved budget. Bank mandates require two signatories, one of whom sits outside the operating company. Related-party transactions are disclosed to all shareholders before execution, not after. On the environmental side, our maritime assets are managed to IMO carbon intensity targets, and the Hangzhou facility operates on a closed-loop water system recovering more than 90% of irrigation water.
